I have a cold that my lovely husband decided to share with me.
Blurgh.
I sent C a litany of pictures yesterday, capturing the onset of my cold.

Last night was miserable, topped off by the dogs waking me up at 3:30a to chase nothing outside.
Yay.
I ‘slept’ on the couch to keep an eye on them – and all I’ve been thinking of is WATERMELON.
Watermelons are AWESOME. I used to hate the texture, the wet, grainy bits that quickly turn mealy and gross. Now they are so so delicious – the BEST cold, sometimes sprinkled with Tajin, sometimes mixed with feta and fresh mint pulled from the garden, sometimes just in a bowl with a fork.
I realized a while ago that watermelon is best when you allow it to drain – so I cut up half a melon into a strainer, inside a bowl.
I don’t know how to describe my cutting method. I slice the melon into quarters, then slice across, turn it sideways, slice across again, then flip it sideways and slice across again, dumping all the cubes into the strainer. Or in smiles. I like cubes, and the kids go back and forth between cubes and smiles.
Today is CUBES.
Taa and Daa.
…I’m going to go lay down now.
